Why does my cat suck and chew on wool?
Some young cats will suck on fabrics - it may be a type of pacifier for them. Most of these kittens grow out of this habit. Some do not. Those that do not may not only suck on fabric, they may actually eat some of it.
For some reason, these cats seem to prefer wool.
And we do not know why, but this habit is most common in Siamese and Burmese ÐÝ ÏÐ¾Ó ±à ¼
cats.
It is also more common in cats that were weaned early (at 2 to 4 weeks). This is not to say early weaning causes the habit, but may be somehow associated with it.
Because swallowing fabric could cause some severe digestive problems, it is best to discourage this habit. Keep clothes picked up and in drawers and closets which are inaccessible to the cat.
If the habit becomes severe to the point of being obsessive, there are medications which can be used to help the cat break the habit.
Some researchers have suggested that providing rawhide toys to these cats may
be helpful in switchi
